Could it be that the USA is just too big?

Is there a "right size" for a nation? Based on square kilometers? Based on population? Based on group theory? Based on any kind of theory? And using all these tools is the USA too big, or is it's size OK?

Arguments For

Can a nation as big as the USA can expect all it's citizens to have "warm feelings" towards each other? If we don't have warm feelings towards each other, how can we possibly expect our citizens to feel like "we are all in this together", and work together to get large projects like health care systems done right? The USA is over 16 times the size of France, which is a pretty big country itself. The USA is more the size of what we think of as an empire, rather than a nation. - webulite essay

I don't think it's too big. China is huge. I think the problems come from federal government overstepping it's authority into the powers granted to the states. - jennyhooah (twitter) vote up image vote down image 0

Likening USA to china is quite innacurate as they are run under a different style of government. A nation is not limited by size but by its leaders. If a leader is corrupt, the country is corrupt. The country reflects the leader in many ways. So no USA is not too big. - _fraz_ (twitter) vote up image vote down image 0
