Background

With the US economy struggling and people finding it harder to pay taxes, should the US eliminate the federal income tax?

This debate is concerning the United States federal income tax.

Arguments For

Yes, the federal income tax should be eliminated

The 16th amendment is in conflict with the idea and purpose of the constitution, it should be repealed.
The federal income tax is not necessary in order for the federal government to serve it's purpose. [1]
The federal income tax code is unnecessarily long and complex, wasting billions of dollars a year for no benefit.
The United States did just fine between 1776 and 1913 (140 years) without an income tax.[1]

Arguments Against

No, the federal income tax should remain

The government needs to collect income tax to spread the wealth to people who are poor and not smart or lucky enough to have the means to survive.
The government needs to collect income tax to police the world.
