For every 1000 people who get infected, 40 people need admission to a hospital and 1 person dies[1]. As of August 2009, there are 43,000 swine flu cases in the United States[2].

Arguments For

Usnews.com writes, "Every person who is infected with the H1N1 swine flu puts 1.5 other people at risk over the three days before coughing, fever and other symptoms appear."[3]

One in four Californians could be affected by swine flu.[4]

"Japan's Health Minister Yoichi Masuzoe said the spread of swine flu is at pandemic levels after the nation's third death from the virus" - bloomberg

Arguments Against

The 1918 flu pandemic killed 20,000,000 to 100,000,000 in a year. Swine flu is not expected to kill more than 500k in a year.

To compare, 42k people die each year in car accidents. There are 553,000 deaths due to cancer in the U.S. each year.

Swine flu is a concern, but not any worse than cancer or existing widespread diseases.

Vitamin D3 and Colliodal silver will kill the H1N1 virus [citation needed] .

Other contagious deadly diseases aren't widespread right now. They are either under control or only affect certain areas. Swine Flu is contagious, and kills not only the elderly and infants, but the youthful.

This disease is overblown. There are hundreds of contagious diseases that have no cure that kill people every day. Swine flu is just being hyped to get people to watch the news. - admin vote up image vote down image +1

Swine flu is contagious, yes, spreading exponentially, yes, but who is it killing? The old the very young and those with weakened immune systems. For me its just as bad as the normal flu. - _fraz_ (twitter) vote up image vote down image 0
