Socialized Healthcare

Background

There has been much debate over US health care proposals in recent months. One of the fundamental criticisms is that of socialized health care in general.

This topic concerns the general concept of socialized health care and not any one specific implementation. There are more specific debates for HR 3200 and nationalized medicine plans by the US government. There is also a general debate on socialism (also see socialism on wikipedia).

Arguments For

Yes, socialized healthcare is good

The right implementation will result in good patient care and healthier people.

The rich would pay for the poor, and the system would work effectively.

Arguments Against

No, socialized healthcare is bad

No implementation of any kind will result in good patient care and healthier people.

Doctors working for the government on fixed income lack incentive to make any more effort in terms of quality than the minimum.
Socialism itself cannot work successfully.
Less incentive for people to work harder to earn money, if the government takes care of them.
Poor citizens and high cost of health care is a result of inflation and interference of natural business forces by legislation and government.
